Online Resources

Food for the Spiritual Soul During a Church Shutdown

Sacred Space - https://www.sacredspace.ie/

Sacred Space is a ministry of the Irish Jesuits. The site originated in the offices of the Jesuit Communication Centre in Ireland in 1999.  Points of interest: 1) 2020 Lent Retreat: Journeying With Jesus; 2) Begin The Prayer (pressing this button takes you to the daily prayer service); 3) ‘Something to pray and think about this week’; this week’s reading was about St. Patrick.

The Church of Englandhttps://www.churchofengland.org/prayer-and-worship/join-us-service-daily-prayer

The website of the Church of England, this is a rich resource.  Plenty of services are available including Morning and Evening Prayer, Compline (a night prayer).

Northumbria Communityhttps://www.northumbriacommunity.org/offices/how-to-use-daily-office/

Another valuable resource for your daily prayer service needs. Morning, Midday, Evening, and Compline services are available. This site is offered by the Northumbrian Monastic Community. Celtic Daily Prayer.

Mission St. Clare - https://www.missionstclare.com/english/index.html

Probably my favorite online resource. I even have their app on my phone. It’s great for participating in a service even when you’re on the go. They even offer sound clips, so you’ll get hymns, service music, the works.  Very well done. It’s for ‘bringing the church to people when people can’t get to church.’  Very use-friendly.

The National Cathedral - https://cathedral.org/worship/weekly-services/

The National Cathedral (an Episcopal Cathedral) has a valuable archive of services available at this website. Unfortunately, their in-person services are cancelled until May 16. However, they are working on ‘coronavirus online options’ which will be updated on their website. They WILL continue to offer an 11:15 a.m. Sunday Eucharist Service online.

St. Luke’s Cathedral, Portland, Maine - http://stlukesportland.org/index.php/sunday-live-stream/

Our own cathedral for the Diocese of Maine normally live-streams their services. I don’t know what they will provide during this shut-down, but I will be keeping an eye on it. This would certainly be a good one to watch, since one would think we might get valuable, diocesan information.

This is a great, user-friendly page that I use all the time.

Prayer for People Critically Ill or Facing Great Uncertainty

God of the present moment, God who in Jesus stills the storm and soothes the frantic heart;
bring hope and courage to all who wait or work in uncertainty. Bring hope that you will make them the equal of whatever lies ahead. Bring them courage to endure what cannot be avoided, for your will is health and wholeness; you are God, and we need you.
