If you notice a truck pulling the dead trees in the front of the church don’t fret.  Roger, our interim sexton/jack of all trades, is now looking for new ones to replace them.  They were rubbing against the building and rotting the wood.

Our annual pie and ice cream sale will be held on Saturday, August 18 after the parade from 11 until sometime in the afternoon. If you can work, even if just for an hour or two, or bake pies, please contact Frannie Grant at 532-3906 or Joan Logan at 532-4196. Cream pies are not recommended, they do not keep in the heat. Remember many hands make light work.

Many thanks to Frannie Grant and Alison Bossie for their work on the new Memorial Garden next to the rectory.  It is complete with a statue of the Good Shepherd watching over it.  Leslie will be blessing the garden at a later date.  Wanda Brewer continues to nurture and plant the flowers near the side entrance and the front of the church.  What a dedicated group we have.

As we approach midsummer I am reflecting on the year past and looking forward to what is to come.  I miss the Sunday School children, with their energy, as the young families spend the summer camping, and visiting families, some far away.  I’m so happy to see the “snowbirds” who add so much with their presence during the warm months.  We are a healthy, happy place these days.

I’m grateful for the faithful workers, old and new, who don’t count their hours of service to Good Shepherd.  And I’m grateful for the new folks who are finding ways to fit in and be part of us, and glad of those who help them be part of our family.

And, as I complete my third year among you all, I am grateful for the support and love I consistently receive from all.  It seems to me that we are indeed the body of Christ as we worship, have fellowship and wor to carry out Christ’s mission of love and acceptance to the world, in our little town of Houlton.  I love you all.

-Leslie

What a wonderful day it was. Both the children and father’s enjoyed themselves tremendously with the Hawaiian theme picked for the day. Games were played and the children entertained us with songs and everyone joined in dancing around the room.

Then it was lunchtime with chef, Roger Habrle at the grill. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and lots of desserts were served to a hungry group. It now seems too quiet with some of the children taking a sabbatical until fall.

The Youth Group is working on several summer plans.  They are designing a quilt that will be sewn over the course of the summer.  We are also trying to fit a camping trip into our busy summer schedules.  We hope to meet on July 22nd at 11:30 and welcome all young people.

The service on July 8th will have a couple nice additions. Back from vacation, Leslie will be with us again and her sister is visiting from Australia! Hopefully we’ll have some nicer weather for her, otherwise she will want to return to the land down under to warm up. Also on tap this week is the Good Shepherd Singers - Ann and Larry Hutchinson and Fred and Renee Grant. They will be singing two numbers during the 10AM service
